Celebration of Durga Puja
Durga Puja (Worship of Durga) is one of the grandly celebrated Hindu religious festivals. This festival marks the victory of Goddess Durga over the evil buffalo demon Mahishasura. Thus, Durga Puja festival epitomizes the victory of Good over Evil.
This celebration refers to all the six days observed as Mahalaya, Shashthi, Maha Saptami, Maha Ashtami, Maha Navami and Vijayadashami. The dates of Durga Puja celebrations are set according to the traditional Hindu calendar and the fortnight corresponding to the festival is called Devi Paksha, ‘Fortnight of the Goddess’.
From Oct 9th- Oct 14th, 2013 Durga puja have been celebrated in different locations of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Organized by local Hindu community and celebrated by people from different religion and class, Durga puja have become not only a mean of gratitude towards goddess but also a common platform for socializing and strengthening relationship between people.
